Yoga Nidra or yogic sleep as it is commonly known, is an immensely powerful meditation technique and one of the easiest yoga practices to develop and maintain.  While you rest comfortably in savasana (corpse pose), this systematic meditation takes you through the pancha maya kosha (or 5 layers of self), leaving you with a sense of wholeness.

Anyone can do Yoga Nidra.  A flow Yoga practice or long asana holds are not for everyone.  Yoga nidra is a practice that everyone can do.  It’s easy to follow at any age or ability.  All that your body needs to do is lie down on the floor.  Even if you can’t lie down on the floor, you can still do this practice seated. All you have to do is follow the voice that is guiding you.  Even if you fall asleep, you will still receive benefits while the unconscious mind is absorbing the practice.

For many, our modern world, with its incredible technological wonders, can be a source of stress, discomfort and distraction from life.  Yoga practices offer us many tools to reconnect to ourselves so we can operate more fully within our lives; one of these is Yoga Nidra. The stages of body scan and breath awareness alone can be practiced to calm the nervous system, leading to less stress and better health.

Yoga Nidra is a restorative and rejuvenating practice, similar (but not the same as) a guided meditation, that generates happiness, contentment and peace as well as deep relaxation. So come and try it! Now running every week from Wednesday July 17 @ 11.15am.

HOLIDAY PHOTO – 2015

While I was away, I was having some fun on a paddle board and my son, Sam, started taking some photos.  As I attempted some Yoga poses on the board, I started to get some encouragement from the beach. Each pose attracted huge support with clapping and booming loud “Bravo!  Bravo!” from the beach.  The spontaneous show of appreciation was overwhelming, funny and very beautiful all at the same time!
